At the beginning, the exercise was very difficult, many photos have been deleted... With my first digital camera, bought in 2002, I was able to progress more and noticed that my work, published on the Web, was appreciated and it gave me the urge to go on.

By means of chat sites and exchanges, I learnt a lot from the others, artistically, technically and especially humanly. I believe and hope that humanity sweats through my creativity.

In my view, digital photography is a fascinating experimental field of discoveries after drawing and painting. As if pixels were coming out from my colour tubes.

So, I started –and go on- to be my own model before shooting men around me, here in Lille or elsewere. Anyway, my creation process has been the same: capture a picture with a kindly eye to reach sensuality, erotism and beauty into conviviality.

I entitled my first Parisian photo exhibition “In urso veritas” because, such as in a good wine, the bear man keep a little part of truth. With his powerfull arms, the strength oh his tenderness, the greatness and weakness of his own human nature he can enchants the hearts, eyes and minds.

Between February and March 2008, I’ll plan a new exhibition in Lyon, at the bear bar Station B entitled "Double" because I’ll present there some photos and drawings on different supports (coming soon on this site).

Bear Art, in my mind, does’nt limit itself to a simple speciality. I have the chance to know and frequent guys who became masters in the small French bear art world. I am proud to count with the friendship and the advice of persons as Guy Thomas or Christophe Jannin who are impulsing and feeding my new artistic experience fields. I owe a lot of them as much as the persons who are dear to me...

BIO

I was born in Senegal, in 1973 and I lived more than fifteen years in West Africa and Egypt where I took my nickname “Qaherabear” (al-Qahera is the arabic meaning of Cairo).

Since seven years, I live in Lille, the great northern french city close to Belgian border, however I’m from Toulouse my nice “Ville rose”, close to Spain. My origins mix France and Italy.

After studies in History (Ancient Egypt and Middle East), I became a teacher of French and  worked especially with foreigners students. Before discovering the art of photography, I was drawing and painting. Then, the computers and digital technologies emerged. They considerably increased the possibilities.

As I was shooting my first artistic photos, taking myself as my own model, at the end of the 90s, I drew my first bear men. In fact, it was a way to accept my own image in a period where I was not feeling very well in my life and wondering many questions to myself.
